10 Cheap Rome Hotels

Cheap Rome hotels are not always easy to find, but budget travelers who make the effort to find bargains often succeed. In considering where to stay in Rome, take a look at these 10 three-star (or better) hotels you can book directly from Kayak.com. Rooms at these places are often less than $150 USD/night, sometimes including breakfast. Central locations also factored into the selection process. Beware of the initial Kayak price ranges, which tend to display rack rates. The lower everyday rates come up with a few clicks. Also note that on some holidays, rates at many of these properties could exceed $150 USD/night.

Hotel Florida

This small hotel is just two blocks from the Vatican. Although it's a three-star with only 18 rooms, it offers a number of amenities such as laundry and baby sitting services. A room for two in non-peak periods runs about $100 USD/night.

Augusta Lucilla Palace

This three-star property is located about three blocks from the Termini (main) railroad station and offers a free breakfast and comfortable rooms for about $100 USD/night. Rates climb at the end of December and in the summer tourist season.

Hotel Espana

Kayak calls this a three-star hotel, but the management considers it a two-star. In either case, don't expect a great deal of added style or comfort. This is a place to spend the night. Rooms are updated but the furnishings are pretty basic. It's located within walking distance of three metro stops not far from the main railroad station.

Paladium Palace

This four-star is within a few hundred meters of the Termini (main) railroad station and close to subway connections, too. It offers amenities you'd expect in a four-star such as room service and a business center, yet rates for a standard room are just above $100/night at many times of year.

Executive Hotel

Here is a four-star that is within walking distance of the fashionable Via Veneto and the Villa Borghese. Rates of $100-$120 USD are available at various times of the year. This hotel offers 53 rooms and most of the amenities you'd expect in a four-star, with the exception of spacious rooms.

Hotel California

This place did not inspire the famous Eagles song, but it is a centrally located three-star property in a historic building that was renovated in 2003. You won't find luxury, but there are convenient connections to city transportation and the main train station. Rates often come in under $125/night.

Cardinal Hotel Saint Peter

If you're willing to skip a room with a view of the Basilica, you can get a "last minute rate" by booking here at least 10 days in advance of visit. The cost will put you right at your $150/night limit, but this hotel offers superb location near the Vatican combined with the quiet that comes from a surrounding "green area." It is rated at four stars.

La Piccola Maison

Here's an opportunity to stay at a four-star property in one of Rome's finest locations. Situated on the Via Veneto and walking distance from the Barberini metro stop. The hotel inhabits an 800 year old mansion. You'll pay for parking, but those wanting a four-star experience without the huge tab can often find a room here for about $150/night.

Hotel Serena

Here's a three-star property within a short walk of a metro stop and not far from the main railroad station and the attractions of central Rome. A buffet breakfast is served in the dining room each morning. As with most properties in Rome, rates increase dramatically during Christian holidays and in the busy summer months. Plan accordingly.

Diplomatic Hotel

Located near the Vatican and the Riverwalk, rates at the Diplomatic Hotel often are listed starting in the $230/night range. But a "classic" rather than "superior" room can be about half that price, depending upon the time of year and market conditions. It's worth checking to see if this well-regarded hotel has rooms available in your price range.
