Lightsabers finally really exist ... kinda

1 hr.

The first?Friday of this May is?Star Wars Day ? a somewhat unofficial holiday ? and that means the Internet is full of people shouting "May the fourth be with you!" ('Cause it's the fourth of May ? get it?)

Last year we marked the day by pointing out that you can purchase a portable laser?which kinda-sorta-almost looks like a real-life double-ended lightsaber. This year we've got something better: The LaserSaber.

Like the "Sith Series" Spyder III laser we saw last year, the LaserSaber is made by a company called Wicked?Lasers.?

The device ??the name of which is cleverly avoiding infringing on Lucasfilm's trademark ??is basically a blade attachment which turns a regular portable laser into one resembling a Jedi weapon, right down to the power-up/power-down schhhhwwwweeeeep sound.?

Here's how it looks in action:

You can't exactly use the LightSaber to stage any battles. The folks at?Wicked Lasers believe that doing so could potentially "cause serious damage to people, pets or property."

Ah, well. We'll just have to use our imaginations and not let safety concerns prevent us from thinking that this is one incredibly cool adult toy.?

As the folks at Gizmodo point out, you'll have to open your wallet wide?if you want to grab a LaserSaber. The blade?attachment itself is $100 and a?compatible portable laser will set you back another $300 or so.

Want more tech news, silly puns, or amusing links? You'll get plenty of all three if you keep up with Rosa Golijan, the writer of this post, by following her on?Twitter, subscribing to her?Facebook?posts, or circling her?on?Google+.
